The client-side software in an 802.1X exchange — the component on a laptop, phone or printer that responds to the authenticator and presents credentials via an EAP method. Operating systems ship built-in supplicants (Windows Wired AutoConfig/WLAN AutoConfig, macOS/iOS network settings, wpa_supplicant on Linux and Android), and their configuration determines which EAP methods and server-validation rules apply.
