An IEEE standard that blocks a wired switch port or Wi-Fi association until the connecting device or user authenticates. It defines three roles: the supplicant (client), the authenticator (switch or access point) and the authentication server (usually RADIUS), with EAP carrying the actual credential exchange. It underpins enterprise Wi-Fi (WPA2/WPA3-Enterprise) and secure wired access.
