CIDR

Classless Inter-Domain Routing

The notation and addressing scheme that expresses an IP network as a base address plus prefix length, such as 10.0.0.0/16, where the prefix length is the number of fixed leading bits. A /24 contains 256 addresses, and each extra prefix bit halves the range. Azure virtual networks and subnets are defined in CIDR notation, with Azure reserving five addresses in every subnet.
